For Prospective Students,

We are looking for highly motivated students with responsibility and decency who are interested in financial innovation and decision analytics. Students with the following undergraduate degree or background will be considered with priority:

Industrial Engineering
Mathematics or Statistics (w/ programming skills in Python)
Computer Science and Engineering

Overview

MS-PhD Program ONLY (석박통합과정만 선발).
BS-MS Program for HYU-IE students (한양대 산업공학과 학생에 한해 학석사연계과정 선발).
A summer or winter internship is a mandatory tryout before the application process (지원 전, 여름/겨울 연구실 인턴 필수 - 평가 후 입학 승인).
- Note that an internship is different from an undergraduate research assistant.

Admission Process

An applicant must simultaneously satisfy the following two conditions to join the lab as a graduate student.

① An applicant must receive permission to join the lab from the director via a summer or winter internship.

- Self-evaluate his/her eligibility based on the [Requirements] below.
- Send an e-mail with a curriculum vitae(w/ Github repo) and transcript to the director (jwsong at hanyang.ac.kr).
  - Deadline: May 31 (Summer Internship for the Spring Admission), November 30 (Winter internship for the Fall Admission).
  - Please include at least one official English test score in the curriculum vitae (TOEIC, TOEFL, or TEPS).
- Take an appointed interview with the director (no interview for non-eligible students).
- Acquire an admission to the lab through the evaluation process.

② An applicant must receive admission to the graduate school (industrial engineering).

- Apply for the industrial engineering program at the graduate school of Hanyang University.
- Pass the oral exam.
- Receive admission to join the graduate school.

Requirements

ⓞ FINX Lab. offers two degree programs:

- MS-PhD degree program
- BS-MS degree program (HYU-IE students ONLY)

① An applicant must have the undergraduate and graduate(if any) GPAs of

- 3.75(/4.5)* or above for the MS-PhD degree program

* 3.30/4.0, 3.60/4.30, or 93/100 or above

- 4.00(/4.5)** or above for the BS-MS degree program

** 3.50/4.0, 3.80/4.30, or 95/100 or above

② An applicant must have studied the following topics (or equivalent) during the (under)graduate coursework w/ B+ or above:

- Mandatory

  2. Calculus & Linear algebra
  3. Data Structures & Algorithms
  4. Database System (w/ Query)
  5. Programming-related class (C(++), Java, or Python)
- Recommended (Course # @ HYU)
  1. Real Analysis (MAT4033)
  2. Stochastic Process (INE3080)
  3. Investment Science & Portfolio Theory (INE2076)
  4. Financial Engineering (INE3083)
  5. Time-series Analysis & Forecasting (INE3098)
  6. Data Mining & Analytics (INE5008, INE4108)

Undergraduate Research Assistant & Internship

An undergraduate student who satisfies any of the following conditions is eligible for the undergraduate research assistant program:

- Admitted to the BS-MS or MS-PhD program.
  - For an MS-PhD applicant, you must pass the evaluation process via summer or winter internship to join the undergraduate research assistant program.
- Assigned to a task for a specified period by the director.

Note that,

- Due to the limited capacity, the office space in the lab is not guaranteed for undergraduate research assistants and interns.
- Undergraduate research assistants and interns can join the lab meeting and can present and discuss the progress of their tasks.
- A stipend is only guaranteed for undergraduate RAs in the BS-MS program.
- Compensation is rewarded for the undergraduate RAs engaged in projects.
